Two Men Arrested As Corpse of Day-Old Baby Is Found Beside Hospital

The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday said it recovered the corpse of a day-old baby around the Ayinke Hospital, along Airport Road in the Ikeja area of the state.

A spokesman for the command, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the police recovered the corpse on Saturday after receiving a call from the security department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, adding that the baby was suspected to have been abandoned by his mother.

He said, “The police, having discovered the corpse of the baby, contacted the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit that removed the corpse. The baby was suspected to have been abandoned by his mother and must have been exposed to risks that caused his death.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, condemned the barbaric act of dumping and killing babies with impunity, as he ordered the State Intelligence Bureau and surveillance teams in the command to step up their findings and keep watch on those heartless criminals who engage in such heinous crimes with a view to bringing them to book and curbing the act in our society.”

In another development, Adejobi said the anti-crime patrol team attached to the Ilasan division of the command intercepted three men on a motorcycle and arrested two suspected armed robbers, while one escaped with their operational motorcycle on Saturday, March 20, 2021 around 9.30pm, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway by Jakande.

He said, “The suspects are Okorocha Covenant, 28, and Adigun Jeremiah, 27, both of the Badagry area of Lagos State. One Beretta pistol with ammunition was recovered from them.”
